Scientists Create Beating Heart Tissue in a Lab Dish

Scientists have successfully grown human heart tissue in a lab dish.

The tiny tissues are actual beating heart muscles created from stem cells. Their creators hope they could revolutionize medical research or even one day be implanted in patients.

“We’re trying to create living human heart tissues in the laboratory,” lead researcher Dr. Kevin Costa, director of cardiovascular cell and tissue engineering at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, said in an interview with CBS News.
